Why Women Get Breast Implants

Women want bigger breasts.

The top reason women get breast augmentation is because they have naturally small breasts. Having naturally small breasts makes women feel self-conscious. Getting breast implants will give them the boost in confidence they need.

Women don’t want “deflated” boobs.

Aging and weight loss affects us all – breasts included. Aging, loss of hormones, gravity and weight loss can make breasts look like they’ve “shrunk” or “deflated.” Breast implants can make them look shaplier.

Women want their pre-pregnancy boobs back.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are other common reasons why women want to get breast implants. The size of a woman’s breast goes through a lot of changes as it accommodates this phase of her life. Breast implants are an effective way to restore a woman’s figure to what it was like before pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Women want to look younger and better.

It isn’t uncommon for women to have asymmetrical breasts. This is simply the result of hormones during puberty. This can impact how clothing fits, how women feel about it and how women feel self conscious about how other women or men look at them. Getting breast implants can have a significant impact on a woman’s confidence.

After a mastectomy.

Women who have endured a cancer diagnosis often seek breast augmentation as a part of the breast reconstruction journey to feel like their old selves.

What is Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase breast size by creating an incision and inserting breast implants under the breast tissue or under the chest muscles.

Breast Augmentation Incisions

There are two types of incisions that can be performed on breast augmentation patients:

• Within the breast crease – this is the most common and most direct approach to creating an incision for the procedure. It also conceals the scars rather easily.

• Around the nipple – this incision tends to heal better but may cause nipple distortion, loss of nipple sensation, and the risk of the implant not fitting through the incision.

• Around the nipple – this incision tends to heal better but may cause nipple distortion, loss of nipple sensation, and the risk of the implant not fitting through the incision.

Sub-glandular vs. Sub-muscular Breast Augmentation

• Inserting implants under the breast tissue is called a sub-glandular breast implant. This is one of the most popular techniques and will create cleavage, with minimal recovery time and lesser discomfort.

Most surgeons do not choose this method as there are more risks associated with it – rippling and palpitations. Additionally, mammograms will be more difficult to perform. Women who have little breast tissue before the surgery are not suitable for this as well.

• Inserting the implants behind the breast and under the chest muscles is called a sub-muscular breast implant. Because the majority of the implant is covered by the muscle itself, it creates a natural pocket for an implant. Many patients and plastic surgeons find that this placement will look more natural and more aesthetically pleasing to the entire physique.

• Additionally, it will not affect future mammogram testing. However, the recovery time may extend over a longer period of time, and it will be more painful than sub-glandular placement.

Before, During, and After Breast Augmentation

Before Breast Augmentation

You’ll need to come in and consult with our surgeons in order to achieve the breast you want. You will need to inform the surgeons about your preferences for the size and feel or appearance of your breasts. The surgeon will then let you know about the different types of implants as well as the techniques you would like. Once everything has been discussed and decided upon, it’s now time to schedule your procedure.

During Breast Augmentation

Once you come into the clinic during procedure day, the surgeon will inform you of what was discussed previously for your procedure. Once done, you will be put under anesthesia and the procedure will begin. The surgeon will make an incision and insert the implants in place, they will then check if it’s centered properly.

Once the implant is in place, the surgeon will close the incision and our nurses will wrap you in a sterile surgical dressing and create compression with a medical sports bra.

After Breast Augmentation

In the immediate days that follow surgery, you will experience swelling and soreness, but the aesthetic result will be seen immediately.

Follow your surgeon’s instructions about returning to regular activities. While you’re healing, remember that your breasts will be sensitive to physical contact or jarring movements.
