Rejuvenate the Windows to Your Soul with Eyelid Surgery at Elite Plastic Surgery

Drooping eyelids can be a result of the natural aging process or can simply be caused by one’s genetic makeup. Whatever the cause may be, however, the result is often the same: Drooping eyelids create a tired, somewhat aged appearance, and many patients visit Elite Plastic Surgery searching for a way to ensure that their face is able to communicate the youthful vibrancy they feel inside. This is where eyelid surgery can help.

Eyelid surgery can help to improve your eyes—and your overall sense of facial harmony—by creating a more attractive and youthful look while also improving your vision if it’s been limited by the presence of sagging or drooping skin. By removing excess fatty tissue and addressing the presence of lax skin, eyelid surgery smooths over fine lines, reduces the presence of wrinkles, and generally leaves you with a more fresh-faced look.

Eyelid surgery is just one of the many facial plastic surgery procedures that we offer, along with a full suite of advanced med spa and premium wellness offerings. At Elite Plastic Surgery, we aim to transform our patients’ looks and enhance their lives at the very same time, with a selection of treatment options that can help you bring your well-being to the very next level. To learn more, reach out to Elite Plastic Surgery in Chandler or Phoenix and set your consultation today.

Do I Qualify for Blepharoplasty Surgery?

Patients should be in good health and without any serious medical condition to become a candidate for upper or lower eyelid surgery. He or she must have specific conditions, such as sagging skin, excess fat, upper eyelid deformities, eye bags, puffy eyes, etc., to qualify for the cosmetic procedure. Good candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who experience:

  • Drooping eyelids
  • Bags or fat deposits under the eyes
  • Loose skin and wrinkles on the upper eyelid
  • Impaired vision due to hanging skin on the upper eyelid
  • Deformities or defects of the eyelid
  • A need to reinforce periorbital tendons

Your Eyelid Surgery Options

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both. In either case, the procedure is ideal for addressing the presence of excess, loose, and sagging skin around the eyes that can impair vision and make a patient look and/or feel uncomfortable. Blepharoplasty surgery can also help you by correcting minor wrinkles and folds around the eyes, improving your look and creating a more youthful countenance.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

When performing surgery on the upper eyelid, Dr. Torabi will carefully make incisions in the natural creases of your eyelids and the expression lines at the corner of the eyes so that there will be no visible scarring left over once the surgery is complete.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery involves incisions made just below the eyelash line, which run along the natural folds of the eye. This will render any scarring invisible. If only fat is to be removed, the incisions are made on the inner side of the lower eyelid.

What to Expect on The Day of Your Procedure

In most cases, local anesthesia can be used for either upper or lower eyelid surgery. Before your surgery, however, your surgeon may advise intravenous sedation and will be sure to discuss the details of your procedure with you at length. Our goal is to ensure your total peace of mind, and we make sure that every step of your journey with us is tailored to your comfort.

Most blepharoplasty procedures take between one and two hours to complete, depending on the extent of your personalized surgical plan. Once Dr. Torabi has removed any excess fat and corrected the presence of sagging or drooping skin, he will carefully close the incisions. At this point, you’ll be moved to our recovery area before you return home to begin the healing process.

Resting and Recovering

Keeping You Comfortable

Before the day of your surgery, your surgeon will make sure that you’ve been provided with a detailed set of aftercare instructions and a recovery timeline that clarifies the process for you. After four to five days, you’ll visit our clinic for suture removal. You’ll likely experience swelling and bruising that can last for up to two weeks, and we’ll ensure that you have everything you need to remain as comfortable as possible while you heal.

Precautionary Instructions

We typically advise that you avoid eye makeup, direct sunlight, and any intense or strenuous activities for at least three to four weeks after your surgery. You’ll be provided with protective sunglasses that will need to be worn for four weeks, along with eyedrops and medications that will be prescribed by your surgeon. Any abnormal tearing, numbness, photosensitivity, double vision, or bruising will subside after about one week.

Getting Back to Normal

Most patients find that their healing process is complete after about four weeks. You’ll likely be able to return to work and other normal activities after about one week, but will need to avoid things like swimming and abrupt eye movements for three to four weeks. We also recommend keeping your head elevated for the first several days, as this will help with any swelling and bruising that may be present.
