How Does BOTOX® Work?

BOTOX is a type of cosmetic treatment known as a neuromodulator. This means that it interrupts specific nerve signals to help reduce the presence of dynamic wrinkles. While some fine lines and wrinkles are caused by a loss of volume or slowed collagen production, others are caused by the repeated use of your facial muscles. These are known as dynamic wrinkles.

By interrupting the nerve signals that tell specific facial muscles to move, BOTOX can limit their use and effectively smooth over any dynamic wrinkles that have formed in the area. This same process prevents further wrinkles from forming, keeping the treatment area youthful and smooth for up to three or four months at a time.

What to Expect After BOTOX®

During your consultation, our injection specialist will take a look at the quantity, depth, and location of your dynamic wrinkles to mark the specific facial muscles that will be treated. With an ultra-fine syringe, BOTOX will be carefully injected into the marked areas.

Most patients report mild discomfort when the needle pierces the skin, but numbing creams and cold compresses can be used to make your treatment more comfortable. The whole process only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to complete, at which point you’ll be able to resume your normal activities.
