Our Advanced Surgical Technique

Your neck lift procedure will be performed while you are under general anesthesia and will likely take between one and three hours to complete. During the procedure, your surgeon will make an incision under your chin to begin the surgery. In some cases, the incision will be made behind or in front of the ears, and your surgeon will discuss these details with you before your procedure. If fat reduction is needed, liposuction will be the first step.

The next step will involve pulling your neck muscles into a tighter and slightly higher position, at which point the skin will be pulled and redraped. Your surgeon will also ensure that any excess skin is carefully trimmed away. Sutures will then be used to carefully close the incisions, and your surgeon may choose to insert drains that will help you avoid avoid fluid buildup within the incisions for a more comfortable recovery experience.

If your procedure will also include the removal of excess fat via liposuction, your plastic surgeon will use either ultrasound or laser technology to assist with the procedure. This works to liquefy the unwanted fat, making it far easier to remove. A cannula (tube) will be inserted into the area, and it will effectively remove the fatty tissue. Once the procedure is over, you’ll be moved to our recovery area before you’re able to return to the comfort of your own home.

What to Expect After Your Surgery

Once you’ve been moved to our comfortable recovery area, our post-operation nurses will monitor you for about 45 minutes to an hour. Once you’ve been discharged, you will need to wear bandages and a compression wrap on your neck and chin to ensure that your healing process is a comfortable one. You can expect to see slight bruising and swelling in the area for two to four days, and some patients report feeling a continual tightness in the neck area. We’ll ensure that you have everything you need to remain comfortable as you rest and recover.

Your sutures and drains will need to be removed at a follow-up appointment three to seven days after your surgery. Our team will help you schedule follow-up appointments that let us ensure you’re healing properly. Most patients find that they’re able to return to work after about seven to 10 days. Your final results should be visible once the swelling subsides completely after about five or six weeks.
