Improve Your Facial Profile with Ear Surgery at Elite Plastic Surgery in Chandler

Ear surgery—also known as otoplasty—is a type of cosmetic surgery that improves the size, shape, and projection of the ears. At Elite Plastic Surgery in Chandler, ear surgery is performed Dr. Torabi, an extensively trained and highly experienced plastic surgeon with a reputation for excitingly naturalistic results.

While most plastic surgery procedures are ideal for adults, ear surgery can offer significant benefits to children and younger patients. In fact, it is very common for parents to request a consultation for otoplasty or “ear pinning” for their child to curtail peer bullying or teasing because of their protruding or disproportionately large ears.

If you would like to learn more about what ear surgery can do for you or your child and are interested in speaking with a plastic surgeon about your ears or your child’s ears, reach out to Elite Plastic Surgery at our Chandler or Phoenix offices and schedule an appointment with a helpful member of our staff today.

Do I Qualify for Otoplasty Surgery?

Any patient interested in ear surgery will begin their journey with Elite Plastic Surgery with an informative consultation. During this initial meeting, you and/or your child will get to know Dr. Torabi. He will have a chance to learn about your goals, explain the procedure to you in detail, and help you decide whether or not ear surgery is the ideal procedure for you. He’ll also be able to answer any questions you might have about the procedure, and will give you a clear idea of what you can expect on the day of your surgery and after your procedure is over.

Ear surgery requires that the patient should be at least four years of age and have one of the following concerns:

  • Ears that protrude or stick out from the head
  • Ears that are misshapen from a trauma or congenital defect
  • Ears that are disproportionately large compared to the head

Our Elite Surgical Technique

In most cases, ear surgery is performed under a general anesthetic. This means that you or your child will be asleep and will remain comfortable throughout the procedure. During the surgery, the skin behind the ear will be excised in the area where the ear joins to the head. Dr. Torabi will then sculpt the ear cartilage and shape the ear with the help of dissolvable stitches. This will allow the ear to form into a more natural, symmetrical shape once it has healed. Ear surgery is an outpatient procedure and typically takes one to two hours to complete.

Your Recovery Timeline after Otoplasty Surgery

Before your procedure, we’ll make sure that you understand exactly what to expect from your recovery period. We’ll schedule follow-up appointments with you or your child, so we can ensure that the healing process is getting off to a proper start, and our team will be available to you at all times to address any needs that may arise. The following is a general idea of what you’ll experience after ear surgery:

  • Immediately after ear surgery, the patient will need to wear bandages on their ears for one week.
  • After one to two weeks, post-surgical bruising and swelling will subside.
  • For six to eight weeks, your plastic surgeon may suggest that the patient wear a tennis-style sweatband over the ears at night to help with healing.
  • For approximately one to two months after having ear surgery, patients are advised to avoid strenuous work.
  • Throughout the healing process, children who have otoplasty will need to be closely monitored so they do not compromise the healing of their ears or cause agitation by rubbing or scratching.
