Microneedling with Hyaluronic Acid at Elite Plastic Surgery

If you’ve been searching for a highly effective yet non-surgical way to stop facial aging in its tracks, microneedling may be an ideal option for you. Microneedling, sometimes also known as collagen induction therapy, refreshes the appearance of the treatment area and produces younger-looking skin by improving its texture and tone, decreasing the presence of wrinkles, and reducing the appearance of scarring. Because every patient is different and results may vary, the microneedling process can also be combined with some of the other nonsurgical facial rejuvenation treatments we offer for optimal results. If you’re interested in learning more about microneedling and how it can help you show the world a more youthful look, simply reach out to Elite Plastic Surgery at our Phoenix or Chandler locations and set up your initial consultation with a member of our team today.

The Day of Your Treatment

Before your microneedling procedure, the treated area will be cleaned, and a thin layer of a topical gel will be applied to numb your skin. The doctor will then apply a sterile cartridge tip with 12 micro-needles to a handheld device that will be guided gently across your skin, going in one direction until the entire area has been treated. The feeling of this treatment is comparable to sandpaper moving over the skin.

During the procedure, the handpiece will create tiny holes—known as microchannels—on the skin, which will close almost immediately, triggering a healing response. This results in rejuvenated skin, including a thickened dermis, which will soften the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and scars. The procedure only takes around 15 to 30 minutes to complete, making it an ideal “lunchbreak” treatment option that won’t interrupt your active daily schedule.

After Your Treatment

Once your microneedling session is over, you can expect the treatment area to appear bright red (similar to a sunburn). This redness can last anywhere from a day to up to a week. The intensity and duration of the redness will be dependent on the number of passes that were performed on the treatment area, as well as the particular area treated since microneedling can be performed on the face, neck, arms, and décolleté.

In some cases, there may be pinpoint bleeding. Since microneedling allows for improved absorption of nourishing creams, gels, and serums, your doctor will advise you on the best products for you to use after your procedure. These may include bleaching or lightening serums, vitamin C, or hyaluronic serums that can accelerate your results.

Looking Forward to Your Results

Over the course of a few weeks, you can expect to see a marked improvement in skin color, tone, and texture. In addition, you should notice a drastic reduction in the presence of lines and wrinkles. Microneedling is also effective in diminishing acne traumatic scars and stretch marks.

Your appearance can continue to improve for up to six months following your initial treatment session. While some patients benefit from a single treatment, two to three treatments are typically advised to get the best possible results. Your doctor will work closely with you to develop the ideal treatment plan based on your individual goals and unique skin type.
