Your Male Breast Reduction Procedure

Gynecomastia surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure with local anesthesia and usually takes between one and two hours to complete. Your plastic surgeon will use a combination of liposuction and tissue excision to decrease the size of your breasts, removing any unnecessary body fat and tissue and creating a more sculpted appearance. Before your procedure, your surgeon will explore the various techniques available to you and guide you to the choice that’s right for you, given your goals and body type.

Liposuction

When liposuction is used to eliminate excess breast tissue, small incisions will be made in a way that enables them to be carefully hidden after the procedure. A small, flexible tube will be inserted to remove excess fat using suction. The procedure to remove the fatty tissue is also known as liposculpture.

Excision

If there is excessive glandular tissue present that cannot be removed using liposuction, an excision procedure will be performed. This involves the placement of a small incision at the lower edge of the areola and, if required, into the skin of the breast. The incision allows the wound to heal quickly with minimal scarring.

Combined Procedure
