Overview

When your skin ages, the framework of collagen and elastin naturally begins to erode. This unfortunate erosion cultivates lines and wrinkles within your skin. We provide our patients at Elite Plastic Surgery with cosmetic fillers that can be injected to lift and plump the skin to create firmness in the treated areas, such as the skin folds, fine lines, sunken facial features, cheek depressions, and chin dimples. Drs. Matatov and Torabi offer these injections, which last between 6 – 10 months depending upon the type of filler, what area is treated, and the severity of the skin being filled or augmented.

Areas we can treat with cosmetic fillers:

  • Marionette lines at the corners of the mouth
  • Deep smile lines that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Smokers lines around the mouth and lip area
  • Lip lines that are undefined
  • Acne scars that have pitted the skin
  • Sunken cheeks

Types of DermaL Fillers

Our plastic surgery office offers many different options and brands for dermal fillers:

Fat Transfer

It is becoming more popular for patients to use their own fat from one part of the body to have it injected into another part for augmentation. A fat transfer produces natural feeling and looking results of the injected fat.

Collagen

For a natural feel after injection, many patients use collagen (a protein made up of amino-acids derived from the human body or animals – bovine collagen) to augment their lips.

Calcium Hydroxyapatite

Found naturally within the human bone, calcium hydroxyapatite is a heavy, mineral compound implemented in deep wrinkles, lines, and folds.

Hyaluronic Acid

The most commonly used dermal and cosmetic products use an acid gel, which is a natural chemical constituent of the skin and therefore less likely to cause an allergic reaction.

Polylactic Acid

Once polylactic acid is injected, it begins to increase collagen production. Patients will not be able to see the results of polylactic acid immediately, but the fullness will appear over time.

PMMA

Polymethylmethacrylate filler (PMMA) is also a heavier, dense filler made of a low concentration of microspheres suspended in a larger amount of purified collagen gel) used for the more severe wrinkles and skin depressions.

During/After the Procedure

We will assess your facial features, wrinkles, and contours before injecting the face with the chosen filler. Marks will be made on the skin at the injection sites after the skin is cleansed and a local anesthetic is applied to numb the skin, which may be applied to the area for treatment 20 minutes or so prior to the injection session.

Using a pre-filled syringe with a fine needle, the filler is injected into the marked areas until the desired fullness has been achieved. Keep in mind that the deeper the wrinkle, the deeper the product is injected into the skin. Different injection techniques may be used depending on the type of filler (some fillers are thicker than others).
