Dr. Tessler has been practicing in the field of plastic surgery for over a decade. He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Tessler’s medical training and experience have made him proficient in practicing and performing all facets of plastic surgery, including reconstructive microsurgery, migraine relief surgery, cosmetic, hand, and maxillofacial surgery. While Dr. Tessler prides himself in practicing the full spectrum of his specialty, his passion resides in reestablishing form and function to the body caused by any insult such as cancer or trauma.

Double Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Tessler,  is a member in good standing of multiple notable organizations and societies, such as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons (CSPS), and the Plastic Surgery Research Council (PSRC).

Dr. Tessler prides himself on an attentive and empathetic bedside manner. He understands that undergoing surgery is often a difficult and impactful decision for his patients. This is why Dr. Tessler takes the time to ensure his patients are fully aware of all their options and understand each of the inherent risks and benefits, in order to make an educated and informed decision.

Dr. Tessler was selected as one of five students to complete a merged MD-MBA program at the prestigious McGill University, earning simultaneously his medical and business degrees. He then joined the integrated plastic surgery residency program at McGill University, one of the consistently top-ranked universities in Canada. During this time, Dr. Tessler co-founded the AirMouse, a device aimed at reducing pain in patients suffering from wrist repetitive stress injury. This endeavor earned him numerous business awards and was featured in major publications across North America.

Dr. Oren Tessler then went on to Boston to complete his fellowship at the prestigious Harvard affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital in microsurgical and aesthetic breast reconstruction. It was during this year that he was first exposed to migraine relief surgery and helped publish and publicize new surgical methods for migraine patients. This year also marked the first full hand transplant at the Massachusetts General Hospital, an exciting breakthrough in the field of plastic surgery, for which Dr. Tessler was an active member of the surgical team.

Dr. Tessler was then appointed assistant professor of plastic surgery at Louisiana State University and Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. There, he also served as assistant program director for the LSU plastic surgery residency and director of plastic surgery at the University Medical Center.

He simultaneously led cutting edge research, lectured at various local, national and international conferences, and mentored and trained over thirty residents, ensuring the growth and continuity of the field.

Over the years, Dr. Tessler has partnered and collaborated with some of the leading innovators in breast reconstruction. His training and experience have allowed him to offer patients “designer” reconstructions. These patient-focused reconstructive options may include the patient’s own skin and fat, implants, or a mixture of the two to produce a customized and desirable result.

In 2016, he was nominated among the top ten national experts in the ASPS’s National Autologous Breast Reconstruction Performance Measures Workgroup. Dr. Oren Tessler has also been retained as a consulting expert by leading innovative technology firms that are working on the next generation of surgical methods and technologies to enhance the outcomes of breast reconstruction.

Dr. Oren Tessler continues to work closely with leading pioneers in migraine surgery treatment. This new surgical approach has helped provide long-time migraine patients with medication-free and often lasting results. His technique includes an upper eyelid lift incision that has the added benefit of a hidden scar and a pleasing esthetic result. Upon publication, this technique attracted national interest and put Dr. Oren Tessler in the spotlight. It is this prominence that allowed him to set up the largest regional migraine surgery center at Louisiana State University. Dr. Tessler’s clinical work and accomplishments have been discussed during national meetings, and covered in top peer-reviewed journals. As surgery evolves as a migraine solution, Dr. Tessler continues to serve at the forefront of clinical research and technological advancement.

Dr. Tessler has presented at over 40 national and international meetings, been an invited lecturer and visiting professor around the world, and has published extensively in leading plastic surgery journals. His research work and publications on breast aesthetics and reconstruction have been amongst the most cited in plastic surgery literature. He currently serves on the editorial and review boards for numerous prestigious peer reviewed journal, including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Journal of reconstructive microsurgery – the top two most impactful plastic surgery publications worldwide. Additionally, Dr. Tessler has been a perennial judge and moderator for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) yearly convention, and is a current member of the ASPS meeting program committee.
